An American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Plot
Follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her extraordinary mind helps her solve a crime while organizing evidence during her shift as a police department cleaner. Despite her extremely high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the mystery, Morgan makes a series of basic mistakes in the law that no one who has ever watched a TV law show would know how to make.
A remake of HPI (2021)
For example, in the first episode, she retrieves a document from a locked safe in the suspected victim’s law firm that would never be admissible in court – illegally obtained evidence. It also could not be used to obtain other evidence – a violation of the legal doctrine of « fruit of the poisonous tree. » In episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at a crime scene, and in episode 3, she removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making anything she removed inadmissible in court.
First of all, it’s not a « Bones » clone
or other cop shows that deal with people with marketable abilities in police work. Like most shows that start out, it’s a bit shaky.
The cops aren’t going to use anyone who’s hooked
The girl is good, although obviously the acting can’t continue like it did in the first episode. Unlike lab techs and the like in other shows that show them being « off their meds. » Second, the actor who plays Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) is awesome, he was very good in « Manifest. » When shows like this level out and the characters flesh out, they get better and the flow starts to work.
As for the talented Morgan, it’s hard to believe that someone with his talent wouldn’t have snagged a tech company or a finance company, but I think there are people out there who, despite their talent, couldn’t make it work in the regular world
