Plot
Two girls go missing. The police recruit Paul Chartier to join a secret unit tracking a sex offender. After the operation falters, Chartier goes after the culprits alone, frustrated by legal restrictions. I know it should have been called « If You Can » … and I think it would have worked … but I went with it …
still no pun intended
The film is based on a true story – and I have no idea what happened in the 90s … and from what I understand, it requires a lot of artistic license … who did what to whom … who survives, is and who doesn’t … and I assume the main character (the police/gendarmerie) is an amalgamation of many characters into one – I could be wrong of course, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was. However, the film may be long (2.5 hours), but it never feels real.
I already know that
Well, maybe at the beginning during the wedding story… Greeks celebrate similarly – like Italians… is it necessary for the story? I would say no… but maybe I’m missing something. The exciting part is really well done…
a lot goes wrong
you feel for the main character… he has the right eye, he has the right « nose »… but will he be able to convince others of this? Many chapters almost work against each other… it’s well told and done… but I’m still missing the x-factor to bring the whole thing to a climax…
more tension throughout
as much praise as it got… and as good as it is… it’s missing the final momentum… maybe a little more charisma… and so on.
