Smith, who plays Lloyd, has a background in the rodeo world
Plot
A Montana ranching family faces off against others encroaching on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and reverts to his usual SoCal voice.
Costner is a great actor as Dutton
Featured on WatchMojo: 10 Best Summer TV Shows Off Your Radar (2018). (Review covers first two seasons only) I went into this show not expecting to like it, but the story, acting, and cinematography are all top-notch. It’s basically Montana mob wars with the occasional heavy dose of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horses fishing)!
The show is at its best when it shows the chessboard the Duttons and their enemies navigate
The show falters in the beginning of the second season, but picks up again in the middle. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link in Monica’s story and she acts weakly, the story is clumsily thrown around and the acting just misses the mark. I think Cole Hauser is probably the strongest actor as Rip (excluding Costner himself) and I can’t wait to see all of Rip’s scenes.
Thomas Rainwater is also excellent
The story hums and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All The Pretty Horses was a bit more raw and brutal than its title suggested, this series works in a similar vein. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
