Covers four tumultuous decades during the Troubles in Northern Ireland
The real-life Dolores Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea.
During this period, Rea appeared in the film for which she is perhaps best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game
In that film, Rea played Fergus, an extremely reluctant and ambiguous member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) – the same organization Price was involved with for many years.
Very well-acted in the different eras of the main characters
I highly recommend reading the book for additional context/information, but the series does a fantastic job of covering the material.
Overall, an incredibly well-made miniseries
The bigger themes for me are: – in war everyone thinks they’re on the right side – how far will you go for a cause you believe in, and what happens when that belief is tested or diminished – the sacrificial pawns of war who carry the greatest risk are usually easily dismissed in the end – the biggest "code" of silence within communities sometimes goes too far – the spoils of war usually go to the bureaucrats, not the soldiers.
